Reef and rainforest
With a modern Italian menu inspired by fresh local seafood, AquaLuna was a highly anticipated unique dining experience at the Cairns Aquarium and Marine Research Centre which opened in 2017. Featuring a curved 70,000 litre tank, diners were enchanted by the 'under the pier' theme and iconic aquatic wildlife including reef sharks and schools of tropical fish. Outside, they were surrounded by lush rainforest-inspired landscaping, creating the perfect setting for breezy brunches and balmy evening canapés.
Moonlight on the ocean
The AquaLuna brand was built upon a rich ocean blue and grey colour palette inspired by moonlight on the ocean. A splash of contrasting Italian blood orange mixed in just for fun. Clean modern sans-serif fonts were used, with a casual handwriting font for accents. A selection of elegant illustrated shells subtly brought the oceanic theme to life.
Bringing Cairns' most unique dining experience to life
As Cairns' newest restaurant in a major tourism development in Queensland's Far North, AquaLuna needed to wow tourists and be loved by locals. I was engaged to develop the restaurant brand based on an existing logo design. The owners wanted an elegant modern Italian look and feel with oceanic elements to align the restaurant with the aquarium. I helped them bring their vision to life and make a splash with their highly anticipated opening by integrating into the team and taking responsibility for guiding and delivering the restaurant's brand and marketing.
